31. JCC925,
Actually, athletic scholarship is a bit of a contradiction. Athletics is fine but the purpose of colleges/universities is to instill an education. It is my belief that scholarships should be based on intellectual merit. Unfortunately sports are a big financial draw for the institutions so they give out scholarships to those who can throw and run, not those that can think. I would be more impressed with this kid if he were awarded a academic scholarship. Either way the real way for the African American race to achieve true parity in this country is thru education. It would be a great gesture on his part to share the wealth as it were.

32. Romeo committed back in April '07. Way to keep up with current events, TMZ! And it's obviously a way to recruit Derozan. Romeo averaged just under 14 points a game, not really Div 1 numbers if you ask me, especially considering the competition in Beverly Hills.

33. His father should in return, set up a full ride scholarship for another student. Thats what Denzel Washington did when his son received a full football scholarship!

34. ESPN recruit tracker has him rated 40 out of 100. I have never seen a prospect graded that low before. What was USC thinking????????

35. I think he has earned an acedemic scholarship by being a honor student at Beverly Hills high school. I am sure his A.C.T/S.A.T scores were high, and that is what allowed him to get a scholarship, along witht he fact that U.S.C wants him as a player for their college.

True though, so many kids are being admitted into the major universities only because they can p;ay a sport well, and make their college money. Most of the time these kids do get special treatment, and passed through because they represent the college. Now, non of the college professors would ever admit this, but they know who the key players are, and the consequences for not "working" with these kids. Most of these kids who colleges recruit, would be lucky to get into community college based on their own merits.

Now Romeo, is the exception, because he has obviously earned his honor roll category at his high school, so congratulations to him!

38. #32. Very well said but that's a bunch of BS. True enough...sports are a financial drain on a lot of universities. But also generate a lot of money for some....USC being one of them. But thats not the point. You think that this kid is the only kid in the country that is on a scholarship and parents have a whole lot of money? And who should Master P be sharing his hard earned money with? If kids want a scholarship...you can either play sports, have good grads, or have you folks pay for it. USC chose to recruit (you know what recruit means right?) and offer him a scholarship. Thats pretty plan and simple.

42. College Grad .I don't hate on black people. That would be impossible! You are way too defensive. Don't let your emotions blind you of the obvious. Read Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man and you will get where I am coming from! I do hate on Hood behavior and al its F-ups! They are always blaming others, while at the same time calling other blacks out , who are doing well and acting with some sense and don't fall for those dumb hood stereotyped behavior and excuses! The kind Bill Cosby was right about. Besides, I don't see USC going to the poor white trailer parks and helping those folks. No PR there! Personally, I don't care if this guy goes to USC or not, but don't try to make it a point of "oh see rap ./hip hop behavior isn't ignorant , this rapper goes to USC" so justification of hood BS behavior can be acceptable! Yes, USC is being very "political correct" in doing this because of truly smart and decent blacks High school students who were denied in the past . So they(USC) used a rapper (see , we let black people in our schools) to excused what wrong they did in the past. That's BS! Some of these students had high SAT scores and great academic potentials ,but were denied! (what is he anyway 5"6"? )

43. Hey College Grad.......why are you always sticking up for rapper thugs? Face it, most of them are worthless, trouble making human beings who are of no use to society. What's your agenda? Let the haters hate when it all makes so much sense. And by the way.....rap DOES suck!! And that's NOT racist comment. I also like to make fun of the stupid ass names these people choose to go by. Guess I'm a hater, but I'm comfortable with that. PS: I'm not saying this Romeo kid is a thug, I just see you all over the boards defending the rappers.

44. His name is not Romeo Miller. His real name is Percy Miller III. Master P is Percy Miller II. Fact check.

45. @Rap sucks!

You are just stating your opinion of the situation and portraying them as facts. We don’t know about his grades or USC’s policies. Also, I don't know what "hood" behavior Romeo has displayed that you are talking about...clearly having a TV. show on Nickelodeon is as far away from hood as you can get. And if there is "poor white in a trailer park" that had some athletic or academic ability then yes I think they would give him a scholarship. Schools will recruit anyone who they think is good and able to bring them in money. Maybe this is what USC was thinking or maybe he was just a great player. I don't know. I'm not saying that you should just praise everything good someone does, but I do think you should give credit when it is due. And I think he has earned it. And that's just my opinion about it.
